Check out the widely popular free-to-play games available on Xbox that players can binge on before school starts.

Going back to school means spending less time spent on carefree afternoons on the Xbox, playing endless games and completing missions. But that does not mean all the fun is over. In fact, players can get the most out of their gaming consoles by checking out some of the best free Xbox games to play before the back to school season begins.

While most parents will want to keep their children away from gaming consoles throughout the school year, there is still time to get the most of the array of free-to-play Xbox games in the market today. Listed below are some of the best free Xbox games, from popular, well-loved titles to some lesser known yet equally enjoyable games.

Top 5 Best Free Xbox Games

1. Halo Infinite

Published by 343 Industries in 2021, Halo Infinite is a free-to-play first-person shooter game that is the sixth installment in the Halo series and the third in the “Reclaimer Saga” after Halo 5: Guardians, which was released in 2015. On July 31, 2020, Halo took to their official Twitter account that the game was free-to-play “for everyone” and supports 120 FPS on Xbox Series X, IGN reported. This multiplayer features  fair starts, on-map equipment, and four-player squads with endless combat possibilities, making it one of the best free Xbox games to date. Available at the Microsoft Store.

2. MultiVersus

This very new free-to-play crossover fighting game from Player First Games was published under Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and features a number of Warner Bros. Discovery owned characters, including those from “Adventure Time,” “Game of Thrones,” and “Rick and Morty,” among many others. The game has received generally positive reviews and now has a steady following. Available at the Microsoft Store.

3. PUBG: Battlegrounds

Despite having been released back in 2017, PUBG: Battlegrounds still has quite a number of fans, as it has become one of the highest-grossing video games of all time. The game, which was inspired by the 2000 Japanese film “Battle Royale,” is a battle royale game that was made free-to-play from January 2022. GamesRadar reported that the third-person shooter offers a massive library of available content, different maps and tactical combat that players can explore. Available at the Microsoft Store.

4. Asphalt 9: Legends

Developed and published by Gameloft in 2018, Asphalt 9: Legends is a racing video game that features an array of legendary cars to collect and customize and up to 185 breathtaking and exciting tracks that offers gravity-defying thrill, all set in 13 real world locations, Kotaku reported. Gamers can play more than 900 solo career events or compete in live eight-player races for ultimate rewards. Players can also race with fellow Club members to unlock milestone rewards and climb up the Club leaderboard. Available at the Microsoft Store.

5. Apex Legends

When EA’s Apex Legends debuted in February 2019, it quickly amassed over 50 million players in just 30 days, making it a viable contender in the free-to-play battle royale genre that had mostly been dominated by Fortnite. But Apex Legends, which was developed by Respawn Entertainment, offers a unique spin to the genre with its vibrant community, likable characters, and thoughtfully designed skill classes. Available at the Microsoft Store.
