God of War Ragnarök sees Kratos once more taking on the Norse gods and goddess, but this time, players will find themselves able to play more defensively. This is due to new shield features, the Dauntless Shield and Stonewall Shield.
This news comes from a Game Informer magazine feature, stating, “The Dauntless Shield is all about twitch reactions” and “the Stonewall Shield is for tank-lovers that prefer slower-paced bouts.” This gives defensive players two different options in how they want to play God of War Ragnarök. Game Informer breaks down how this new shield will affect combat.
But Lead Combat Designer Denny Yeh warns players not to take on more than they can handle. The Stonewall Shield can absorb kinetic energy by taking hits, allowing players to slam the shield and release a powerful attack. But the more hits this shield takes, the more unstable it becomes, opening you up to more attacks.
Regardless of how you play, it is best to incorporate a good mix of offense and defense in God of War Ragnarök. Kratos can overpower most enemies easily, but you never know when a good block will come in handy.
