android, hook 2, the sequel to the classic zen puzzle game, launches later this month

Rainbow Train Games, developers of various minimalist themed puzzlers like Klocki, PUSH, and HOOK, have announced a direct sequel to that last entry with HOOK 2. Originally launching in 2015, this one had you dealing with puzzles all themed around, well, hooks. It’d be unhooking things, hooking things up, all sorts of different situations, and fans were clamouring for more levels. Rather than do that, Rainbow Train Games went the extra mile and made a sequel instead!

It’s a bit difficult to explain the concept of the HOOK puzzles beyond that, as they’re very abstract, and all of Rainbow Train’s games are very focused on a minimalist aesthetic, with calming sounds and visuals. Despite this, these puzzles do get very complex and difficult in those later levels, but the zen tranquillity of it all will have you, if you’ll pardon the pun, hooked on completing all of the levels in one sitting, if not just to relax and ease into a meditative trance.

There are no time limits, no leaderboards, none of what you might find in modern-day puzzlers with stamina systems and all those somewhat intrusive mechanics. Nope, with HOOK, all you get is a collection of relaxing puzzles and maybe a light dose of stress when things start getting real brain-scratching towards the latter half of the games.

The best part of all of this is that HOOK and HOOK 2 are both premium experiences, and will only require one purchase to own the game in its entirety, along with the planned levels that will be added to HOOK 2 in the near future. On release, it will hold 80 different puzzles for you to solve, so you’re already getting quite a bit of bang for your buck.

As for release, it’s planned to launch on June 29th, so you’ll only be waiting a few days! If you’re looking to get ahead of the curve, you can pre-order it right now on the App Store. Currently, there’s no word on an Android release.
