how to, how to play eruption mode in destiny 2 iron banner

With the flop that was Rift in Iron Banner for Season of the Haunted, Destiny 2 developer Bungie went back to the drawing board. Beginning with Season 18, a new mode for Iron Banner has been put into play: Eruption. With a new mode comes a whole new set of rules. So let’s get into the nitty-gritty of how Eruption works.

How does Iron Banner Eruption work in Destiny 2?

Eruption is essentially Clash with kill streaks. Killing an opponent scores one point and a normal amount of energy. Upon a second elimination (assists count), the Guardian will become “Surging.”

  • Surging
    • Guardian begins lightly glowing.
    • Kills generate 10% Super energy and 20% grenade, melee, and class energy.
    • Guardians score three points per kill.

When Guardians tick off their fifth kill without dying, they become “Primed.” Note that there can be more than one Primed Guardian at a time.

  • Primed
    • Guardian glows brightly.
    • Guardian’s team goes on the Hunt.
      • Team members gain 5% Super and 10% grenade, melee, and class energy.
    • The Guardian gains 12% Super and 5% grenade, melee, and class energy perk skill.
    • Guardians score three points per kill.

While becoming Primed sounds like a blast, there are some drawbacks to it.

  • Primed Guardians have a 15-second timer on them. If the timer reaches zero, they will go boom.
    • Erupting kills the Guardian, resets their streak, and ends the Hunt.
    • Getting a kill will reset the Eruption timer back to 15 seconds.
  • Primed Guardians are marked for both teams, so they will be visible to everyone.
  • Killing a Primed Guardian is worth three points.
