Minecraft Legends – release window, new trailer and what we know so far

Mojang Studios has dropped a new gameplay trailer for upcoming action strategy game Minecraft Legends during Gamescom.

The game is the newest spin-off from the block-building mega hit, and will offer players the chance to write their own legend.

Minecraft Legends – release window and more

Currently, Minecraft Legends only has a release window of 2023. However, it will release on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC when it lands.

Being an Xbox Game Studios Game, it’ll of course also be available via Xbox Game Pass from launch.

The game was first revealed back in June. You’ll play as a singular character, who sets out on a quest to save the idyllic and peaceful Overworld.

It’s under attack, you see, from an invading force of Piglin from the Nether. It’s up to you to reunite the forces of the Overworld and band them together to fight off the threat.

One of the major differences between Legends and fellow spin-off Minecraft Dungeons is that though you’ll be controlling one character, you’ll be directing groups of mobs – a little like 2009 Double Fine game Brutal Legend.

Development on the game is being handled by Blackbird Interactive alongside Minecraft home studio Mojang Studios. They’ve released a developer diary on creating the new game, which you can check out below.
