With Gamescom now over, there’s just enough time to catch your breath before the next big event in the gaming calendar, PAX West!

The 2022 show is running from Friday 2nd to Monday 5th September and there are a whole load of Nintendo-themed events lined up that you’ll want to keep an eye on, even if you’re not attending the Seattle event in person.

Nintendo is featured in several events, with the Splatoon 3 Enter the Splatlands Invitational 2022 tournament and the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Championship Cup 2022 invitational pitting top players against each other in a battle for glory and trophies on Monday 5th September. Both of these tournaments will be streamed live on YouTube and Twitch. Separately, there’s also the ‘Stream Stars: Nintendo Switch Showdown’ competition on the Friday, coming from the PAX Arena.

Elsewhere at the PAX Arena, there’s the ‘Panda Cup Almost Pro Open’ featuring Super Smash Bros. Ultimate starting on Friday and continuing through to Sunda. Panda Cup is an official Nintendo-licensed North American circuit for budding Smash Bros. players to test their skills, which makes this one of the biggest Almost Pro tournaments that PAX has hosted to date!

And on Sunday our very own video producer, Zion Grassl, will be hosting an EarthBound panel showcasing his brilliant video, ‘The MOTHER We Share: Our EarthBound Story’. He will also be on the showfloor, of course — be sure to say “hello, lovely person” if you see him!

Here are the start times for all the competitions, plus all the info you’ll need to catch the event, whether you’ll be there in person or you’ll be chilling at home.

PAX West 2022 Nintendo Event And Stream Times

Nintendo VS at PAX West

First up, the Nintendo invitationals for Splatoon 3 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Both competitions will take place on Monday 5th September in the PAX Arena in the Seattle Convention Center, and both will be streamed live on YouTube and Twitch.

The format for the Mario Kart competition is simple: the 12 invited players compete in 8 races and whoever has the most points at the end wins.

There will be four teams participating in the Tournament. We will start off with the Mini Bracket Round where teams will play 2 matches each to determine seeding for the tournament. – Team 1 vs. Team 2 – Team 3 vs. Team 4 – Match 1 Loser vs. Match 2 Loser – Match 1 Winner vs. Match 2 Winner – Mode: Turf War – Format: Best-of-1
– Based on win-loss ratio, teams will be seeded #1-#4

All teams will move on to the Semi-Final Matchup Round and based on seeding, teams will compete in the following order. – Seed #1 vs. Seed #4 – Seed #2 vs. Seed #3 – Mode: Ranked Modes
– Format: Best-of-5

The winners of match 1 and match 2 will face off in the Finals Round to determine the winner of the championship. – Mode: Ranked Modes
– Format: Best-of-7

Elsewhere, the Splatoon 3 booth will be open all four days of the event, with “real-life photo opportunities” featuring backdrops from the game’s Scorch Gorge stage for those in attendance.

Panda Cup Almost Pro Open

Panda Cup’s Almost Pro Open spans three days, from 2nd to 4th September. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the game, and entry is open to absolutely anybody with a PAX West badge.

Online and offline registration will be available for badge holders with a total competitor cap of 512. Limited online registration is open now, and the winner will receive a seat at the $100k Panda Cup finals later this year. You’ll be able to watch this event streamed on Twitch.

PAX Arena Stream Stars: Nintendo Switch Showdown

This event will see a host of YouTubers and Twitch streamers battling for a $5,000 prize pool by playing four games that the organisers are keeping under wraps as a surprise.

Abdallahsmash is returning this year to defend his title against seven other gaming celebs challengers.

Zion’s Epic EarthBound Panel

Last, but absolutely not least, we have our lovely North American video producer, Mr. Zion Grassl, who will not only be out and about on the showfloor, but is also hosting a panel on Sunday 4th September where he’ll be presenting his epic Mother doc, ‘The MOTHER We Share: Our EarthBound Story’.

You’ve always wanted to play the EarthBound games, right? Hey, we completely get it! The series hasn’t always been the most accessible adventures out there, but if Scott The Woz asks you to play EarthBound, are you going to say no? So join us for a limited screening of The MOTHER We Share – Our EarthBound Story. An incredibly personal and spoiler-free documentary that dives into the hearts of the fanbase to learn why people hold these games so dear and why they it’s so important for you to give them a try.
