playstation acquires savage game studios for new mobile division

Sony is making headlines as it continues to diversify PlayStation beyond its traditional role as solely a console experience. The first signs of movement are the increasing number of PlayStation exclusives that are now making their way to PC. Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and The Last of Us: Part 1 are the two most recent examples. But it’s not just PC Sony is branching out to, news has sprung today about PlayStation acquiring Savage Game Studios for a new Mobile Division.

Sony addressed the acquisition in a blog post by saying, “Savage Game Studios is joining a newly created PlayStation Studios Mobile Division, which will operate independently from our console development and focus on innovative, on-the-go experiences based on new and existing PlayStation IP,”.

Sony has previously stated that the company is looking to expand to new platforms as part of its business strategy. And Sony’s acquisition of Savage Game Studios marks the company’s first significant step toward diversification, outside of their recent PC offerings. However, it appears that this news has been in the works for some time and is only now becoming public, as Savage Game Studios is already working on an unannounced IP.

New Unannounced PlayStation Mobile Game

Savage Game Studios, founded in 2020, is a relatively new gaming studio. Despite the fact that they do not yet have any games to call their own, founders Michail Katkoff, Nadjim Adjir, and Michael McManus bring decades of experience from respected studios such as Zynga, Rovio, and Insomniac games. That’s why Sony has high hopes for Savage Game Studios’ taking the reigns on PlayStations’ new Mobile Division, and work on the first game is already underway.

“They’re already working on a new unannounced AAA mobile live service action game. It’s too early to reveal more, but I’m so excited for when they’ll be able to,” said Sony in PlayStation’s Blog post.

Aside from that, there are no other details available about the new mobile game. However, expect this to be the first of many releases from Savage Game Studios for the new PlayStation Mobile Division. The company focuses on developing narrative action games, and with their new acquisition with Sony, they now have access to all of PlayStation’s IP. As a result, it’s safe to assume that the studio will be revamping old PlayStation IPs for mobile, as well as conjuring new and exciting AAA action titles.
