September 1st is upon us and we’re happy to report that our predicted Pokemon Go Giovanni Counters for September 2022 were on the money.

The Team Rocket Leader is drafting in Persian for Phase 1, then Machamp/Nidoking/Rhyperior for Phase 2, and wrapping proceedings up with Shadow Latios for Phase 3.

Scroll down for our recommended counter for each.

Original Article:

As most players have wrapped up this month’s head-to-head with Giovanni, we’re turning our gaze to next month to see what Team Rocket’s most formidable fighter may have in store to bring you our Pokemon Go Giovanni counters predictions for September 2022.

Speculative caps donned, we’re peering back to the past few months to get a sense of what Niantic is cooking up for next month.

The Pokemon Go developer tends to lean heavily on consistency, so we’re unlikely to see any seismic changes to which Pokemon counter Giovanni’s roster in September.

Pokemon Go Giovanni Counters September 2022

Giovanni counters for September 2022 predictions:

  • Phase 1: Persian
  • Phase 2: Machamp/Nidoking/Rhyperior
  • Phase 3: Shadow Latios/Latias

Persian – Phase 1

Barring some unexpected switcheroo from Niantic, Giovanni begins proceedings with Persian, a normal-type Pokemon that crumbles when faced with Fighting-type Pokemon.

  • Counters: Breloom, Machamp, Lucario, Conkeldurr
  • Moves/Attacks: Counter

Machamp/Nidoking/Rhyperior – Phase 2

During phase 2, Giovanni is likely to call upon his trusty trio of Rhyperior, Nidoking, and Machamp. The question, and one we’ll have to wait to get the answer to, is which one he’ll lean on for September.

Machamp – Pokemon Go Giovanni Counters

A fighting-type Pokemon, Machamp puts even the most sinewy regulars at your local gym to shame. Weaknesses are Fairy, Psyhic, and Flying moves.

  • Counters: Mewtwo, Togekiss, Sylveon, Rayquaza, Gardevoir
  • Moves/Attacks: Charm, Psycho Cut, Moonblast, Psyshock

Nidoking – Pokemon Go Giovanni Counters

A Poison and Ground-type Pokemon, Nidoking doesn’t fare well against Ground, Psychic, Water, and Ice-type moves.

  • Counters: Mewtwo, Garchomp, Kyogre, Glaceon, Galarian Darmanitan
  • Moves/Attacks: Psycho Cut, Ice Shard, Mud Shot, and Waterfall

Rhyperior – Pokemon Go Giovanni Counters

Rhyperior falls into the Ground and Rock-type Pokemon category and has a tough old time standing up to Water and Grass attacks.

  • Counters: Kyogre, Empoleon, Torterra, Swampert, Zarude
  • Moves/Attacks: Waterfall, Razor Leaf, Mud Shot

Shadow Latias/Latios – Phase 3

To close out the fight, Giovanni is likely to summon either Shadow Latias or Latios. We’ve seen Latios pop for the past three months, so their a solid bet again next month.

Both Latias and Latios are Psychic and Dragon-type Pokemon, so Pokemon Go Giovanni counters don’t change whichever one ends up making an appearance in September. They’re weak to Fairy, Ghost, Bug, Dark, and Ice-type attacks.

  • Counters: Gengar, Salamence, Garchomp, Flygon, Dialga
  • Moves/Attacks: Dragon Tail, Shadow Claw, Outrage, Draco Meteor, Shadow Ball

That’s a wrap on our Pokemon Go Giovanni Counters for September 2022.
