It’s being reported that Amazon may be lining up a bid to buy EA in what could be one of the biggest gaming deals of recent months.
As reported by USA Today, GLHF sources claim that Amazon will announce that it has put in a formal offer to buy EA later today.
There’s no word on how much they’re paying, but the report notes the move is likely in-part a move to utilise the publisher’s IP – such as Dead Space, Mass Effect and more – to make transmedia content for Amazon’s Prime service.
The rumour comes following reports back in May that EA was “pursuing” a sale or merger following the deal by Microsoft to acquire Activision announced back in January.
According to Puck’s reporters, EA’s CEO Andrew Wilson had supposedly held talks with companies like Disney and Apple. Fittingly, another company in those claims was Amazon, although no party confirmed the reports.
At the time of writing, neither EA nor Amazon has commented on these reports either. We’ll keep an ear to the ground, and let you know if any official word indeed comes through.
More to follow.
