"Metal Gearrrr?!"

rumour: new metal gear solid remasters reportedly incoming

If various rumours over the last year or so are to be believed, it seems Konami may well be on its way to a bit of a resurgence. After partially stepping away from the console market and leaving some of its key franchises lying dormant, the publisher is apparently looking to revive major IP like Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania, and Silent Hill.

Now, it looks like Konami may be gearing up to launch a brand new remastered collection for Metal Gear Solid, encompassing the original Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

The news comes from VGC and subsequently backed up by known leaker AestheticGamer. AestheticGamer states that the possibility of a new remastered collection is “100% true” and that the three games will be available separately or as a bundle. He also suggests that the collection is planned for “higher-res” consoles, which may rule out the Switch, but also states that the collection will come to “pretty much everything” when responding to a user question.

(2/2) heard about it), I've had it from an 100% source and not. The plan is to release the three remasters seperately, but also together as a collection (where also get the MSX versions of Metal Gear 1+2 if buy together). Just chiming in there, that is something coming.— AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem (@AestheticGamer1) August 31, 2022

To play devil’s advocate for a moment, however, we need to remember that the official Metal Gear Solid Twitter page recently stated that it’s planning on resuming sales for MGS titles that were temporarily delisted; this includes the current remasters of MGS2 and MGS3, along with Snake Eater 3D on the 3DS. One ought to wonder why Konami would even bother if it’s planning to release a brand new collection. Something to ponder, perhaps.

Regardless of whether this is true or not, we’re certainly keen on seeing the original Metal Gear Solid trilogy on the Switch at some point (yeah, let’s throw Guns of the Patriots in there too – why not). Hideo Kojima’s stealth franchise is a bonafide masterpiece, and certainly a massive influence on many of the games we play today.

Do you think we’ll see the Metal Gear Solid series on the Switch at some point? Let us know – our codec is 140.85. Good luck, Snake.
