In just a couple of weeks, publisher SEGA and developer ATLUS will finally release Soul Hackers 2 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. To celebrate the nearing release, SEGA unveiled a new English-dubbed trailer for PlayStation called “Twisted Fates,” and you can check it out for yourself below.
Soul Hackers 2 is a direct sequel to Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, and is the fifth overall entry to the Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner games. Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers has reached cult-like status within the Shin Megami Tensei community, with many fans regarding it as one of the most underrated SMT games in the franchise’s large portfolio. While it has been somewhat overshadowed now as Persona fever took place, it still has a grand following, leading to the creation and development of Soul Hackers 2.
The game follows Ringo, an agent of Aion, as she is created solely for a single task: to prevent the onset of a world-ending disaster. Alongside a group of Devil Summoners and armed with the mysterious Soul Hack, Ringo must explore and traverse the dizzying landscapes of a futuristic, cyberpunk Japan.
The gameplay of Soul Hackers 2 is fairly similar to other Shin Megami Tensei entries in that it is turn-based but with a stylistic choice that follows what was first heavily popularized by Persona 5. Ringo can amass an army of demons through her battles or by unlocking certain fusion combinations, with each demon bearing different personalities, alignments, needs, and wants. Certain demons will refuse to work with one another, and it’s up to you to figure out which are the best lineups for your journey.
Along the way, Ringo can also strengthen her bond with her teammates, diving deeper into their souls and discovering the truth behind their stories, a feature common in Persona titles.
Soul Hackers 2 comes in three editions: Standard, Digital Deluxe, and Digital Premium. Here are the contents for the latter two:
