the 10 best overwatch skins of all time

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been six years since Overwatch launched. Over the years, it’s gained a huge amount of cosmetic items, as any good live service game should. From Summer Games to Winter Wonderland to the myriad number of challenges the game has seen, there are skins for just about every occasion scattered across the game’s roster.

With Overwatch in the rearview mirror and Overwatch 2 on the very near horizon, we’re taking a look at the very best skins the first game received during its days of live support. Whether you want to look silly or serious, rad or reserved, there’s probably a skin here for you. All of these skins will carry over into Overwatch 2, so make sure to snag your favorites before the new game gets into full swing.

Here are the 10 best Overwatch skins of all time.

The 10 best Overwatch skins of all time

Pink Mercy

Pink Mercy is one of the game’s most iconic legendary skins. It was originally released during a three-week charity event in 2018 where players could donate $25 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and receive the skin in return. Pink Mercy has become one of the game’s rarest skins, as it hasn’t been available since that charity event despite fans begging for its return. From its bright pink wings to Mercy’s twin pigtails, it’s an absolutely adorable skin.

Grillmaster: 76

Grillmaster: 76 was born from a long-running community joke that the Overwatch development team decided to include in the game proper. Many players imagined that outside of the field of battle, Soldier: 76 was a gruff but well-meaning dad figure who enjoyed grilling, bad puns, and socks with sandals. This skin incorporates all of those, from its punny apron to its tactical drink dispenser armband. It was originally available during Summer Games events.

Dragon Symmetra

This Halloween Terror-exclusive skin completely transforms Symmetra from head to toe. It replaces her usual uniform with horns, a scaled bodice that glows with lava, and a pair of wings that function as the skirt of her dress. Her imposing horns and spiked leg armor are the cherry on the top of this very impressive, very detailed skin. Dragon is Blizzard at their best.

Lifeguard McCree

This ridiculous Summer Games skin is great for a laugh. From the top of his straw hat to the bottom of his cowboy boots-turned-flip flops, Lifeguard Cassidy is ready for the pool. This skin truly changes everything about the hero: when he activates his ultimate, a beach ball floats onto the battlefield instead of his usual tumbleweed. His belt even reads SAMF—we’ll let you figure out what that stands for.

Witch Mercy

the 10 best overwatch skins of all time

Mercy is the only hero with two skins on this list. It might seem unfair considering how many other great skins didn’t make the list, but Witch Mercy is truly one of the game’s most iconic skins. It was released during the game’s very first Halloween Terror event in conjunction with the Junkenstein’s Revenge PvE mode, which was so beloved that it encouraged the team to explore PvE further in Overwatch 2. Witch Mercy’s pointy hat, glowing wings, and mysterious book are just too good to not include on this list.

Officer D.Va

Officer D.Va was first launched as part of a unique collaboration between Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm, Blizzard’s flagship MOBA. Fans who played at least five ranked, unranked, or quick match rounds of Heroes of the Storm with someone on their friends list would instantly unlock this skin in Overwatch. Since Heroes is no longer being supported, the skin is now available for purchase without having to complete the challenge.

Cultist Zenyatta

While many of Zenyatta’s skins are based around mythological gods or wise figures, Cultist shows off the dark side of worship. The best part of this skin is the way it changes Zenyatta’s face: it’s been transformed into a mass of tentacles, similar to the legendary H.P. Lovecraft monster Cthulhu. Originally available during Halloween Terror events (of course), this skin proves that characters with unusual shapes and forms don’t always have to get boring skins.

Scion Hanzo

When it was first released, Scion drove Overwatch‘s fanbase wild thanks to the snazzy pinstripe suit and slicked-back hair it gives Hanzo. Like many skins released during Archives events, this one is connected to Hanzo’s lore: it depicts him in the days following his father’s death, which required Hanzo to step up as the leader of the Shimada clan. It’s one of the classiest skins in the game, making it a great way to flex on your opponents.

Jazzy Lúcio

Speaking of classy, Jazzy Lúcio turns the renowned DJ into an old-fashioned jazz master. This fun skin blends elements of jazz culture, like Lúcio’s top hat and polished vest, with the mechanical elements of horns, which make up the speaker on his back and the armor on his legs and skates. Jazzy even changes the way his music sounds: it transforms his healing song into a gentle piano tone, while his speed song gets an upbeat trumpet-filled remix. It was originally available during Anniversary events.

Overgrown Bastion

the 10 best overwatch skins of all time

Screengrab via Blizzard Entertainment

Overgrown Bastion is legendary because of its association with The Last Bastion, one of Overwatch‘s incredibly polished short films. This skin depicts Bastion as he was when he was found in the Black Forest outside of Eichenwalde. The short was a clever way to explore the effect of PTSD and the healing power of nature, but even if it didn’t have those associations, Overgrown would still make it onto our list. It even features the nest home of Ganymede, Bastion’s faithful companion. This skin was only available to players who purchased the Origins Edition, Legendary Edition, or Game of the Year Edition of Overwatch.
