Welcome to this review of this week’s Monday Night Raw, right here on Nerdly, in this new Triple H era where anything goes… So let’s get into the review.
Match #1: The Judgment Day def. AJ Styles & Dolph Ziggler
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
AJ Styles joined forces with Dolph Ziggler against their mutual adversaries, The Judgment Day’s Finn Bálor and Damian Priest. At a key moment, the official was out of place as The Showoff attempted to pin Priest. This cost Ziggler crucial seconds and allowed Priest to pick up the win with South of Heaven.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #2: Bianca Belair, Alexa Bliss, & Asuka def. local athletes
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Less than a week before battling Bayley, IYO SKY and Dakota Kai at WWE Clash at the Castle, Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair, Alexa Bliss and Asuka sent a strong statement to their Premium Live Event adversaries by taking down their outmatched local opposition in a Six-Woman Tag Team Match.
My Score: 1.5 out of 5
Match #3: The Street Profits def. Alpha Academy
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle made a heroic return to Raw in his hometown of Pittsburgh. When he refused to accept a special one-night offer to join The Alpha Academy, however, Chad Gable and Otis took exception. Before the confrontation became volatile, though, The Street Profits emerged to stand with The Olympic Gold Metallist. Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford proposed a tag team match with their adversaries. In response, Gable & Otis would only agree to the contest if a win by them meant Angle would be forced to join them. In the match that followed, Dawkins knocked Otis over the announce table. The Street Profits then used their incredible tag team prowess to gain the advantage on Gable, paving the way for Ford to deliver an incredible Splash off the top rope for the win.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #4: Bobby Lashley def. The Miz
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
In the final moments of The Miz’s Championship Contender’s Match against Bobby Lashley, The A-Lister used underhanded tactics and his cohort Ciampa to gain the advantage. Before he could hit the Skull-Crushing Finale, however, he was suddenly spooked by who he thought might be Dexter Lumis in the crowd. During the distraction, The All Mighty locked The A-Lister in the Hurt Lock, and Miz was forced to tap out.
My Score: 1.5 out of 5
Match #5: Kevin Owens def. Jey Uso
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
In an impromptu matchup between Kevin Owens and “Main Event” Jey Uso, The Usos instructed Sami Zayn to get a steel chair while Jimmy distracted the official. The Master Strategist hesitated in his execution, though, and the official caught him with the chair in-hand. During the commotion, Owens hit Jey with a Stunner out of nowhere and picked up the victory.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #6: WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship – Raquel Rodriguez & Aliyah def. Dakota Kai & IYO SKY
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Raquel Rodriguez & Aliyah battled Dakota Kai & IYO SKY in the finals of the eight-team tournament to crown the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. After Bianca Belair, Alexa Bliss and Asuka emerged to chase off an interfering Bayley, Raquel tagged in Aliyah in the final moments. Aliyah, however, immediately dropped down off the apron and hid from her unsuspecting opponents. As they continued their attack on Rodriguez, Aliyah picked the right moment to enter and rolled up the surprised Kai for the huge title victory!
My Score: 2 out of 5
Final Verdict: 2.5/5
What the hell happened this week? This episode of Raw felt the most “Vince” since he retired and Triple H took over! Undoubtedly this was due to the Clash at the Castle matches being set in stone and so nothing really big or exciting could happen… Apart from crowning new Women’s Tag Champs of course and even that, with its screwy finish, seemed to be a Vince-like play. Although it was a brilliant swerve on expectations TBH. Overall this wasn’t much of a go-home show for the PPV. Hopefully, Smackdown will do better?!
